The weekend was lovely. The adventure was grand.

Everyone chilled in hammocks at our campsite. The water was freezing, but I swam anyway because that's always fun.

We left a day early because the rain chased us out. But it was so good to see everyone. Can you believe how long ago high school was? Already, it feels so far. Is this what old people feel like?

Today there was a lovely sunrise service followed by a nap and a Black Meg's burger picnic at the lake.
I have great friends.

As a side note, I cannot figure out what Pinterest did with their embedding system so I'm having trouble getting a picture into this post. Hopefully that all gets sorted soon.

I'm off adventuring again tomorrow! This time, I'm going camping (which is a REAL adventure) up north with friends from high school!

So exciting!

No posts for a few days; we'll be enjoying the great outdoors! I hope for sunny sun, but we may have rain and other camping mishaps. Oh well. Every bit is a piece of the adventure.

Tomorrow is our 74th annual Easter Pageant. First one I will participate in.
My prayer is that we will all see God move in amazing ways.

Tonight, we prepare our hearts.

This video of a young boy showing Jesus throughout the Bible was just what I needed to see tonight. Click the photo to view.

Spring Resolve

My springtime confession: I feel like spring is the waiting room for summer.
Sad. I know.
There's no more winter activities yet there's still so much hecticness. We're just waiting for swimming and art (or swimming in art) days to come.

That being said: I am loving spring!
Since we basically had no winter in Texas I thought spring wouldn't be a jolt but here we are: birds everywhere, flowers, and everything is GREEN again!

New season. New resolutions.
As for me: Run faster. Keep the grades up. Don't drown in your to-do list. Read a book.

What's on the menu for you?

Do you ever long for another era?

Or feel like you belong in another?

Sometimes I'd love to melt right into Foyle's War. There was a time when I was positively jealous of Sam...
Or maybe some Midnight in Paris? That guy, he just gets me. I know how he feels. He knows what I'm thinking.
It might be a night for that film...

Question: “Did you believe anything strange when you were little?
Like that little bears lived in gutters or in santa claus, or that cars ran on magic.
I mean I don't know. Even something simple and ordinary that you just know better than now?”

I'm doing some research. I've been asking all my friends this question. Anyone have an answer?

Wasn't the world just magical? Isn't it still?

For those of you who follow my Pinterest, you know I'm a little obsessed. I think you know that even if you only read Standing Together Spaces.
But if you know me, you know I like to keep everything organized on there. I just switched to the new look and, while I love it, the shifting is causing some reorganizing issues. It's ok, I'll survive.
I have the four seasons. I have five boards for food. I'm not sure this is really necessary, but I hate it when they're so huge I can't find the bottom! I have one for the past, one for the future, one for cuteness, one for art, one for musing, and one for quotes... and I have one color.
Just one: green.
I almost didn't.
I was afraid I would go to far with it and end up with a whole rainbow.
Green is my favorite color. This color green. But that's not why I did it.

There are so many other fantastic hues I could have chosen, or gotten sucked into. Deep blue. Filtering sunlight yellow. Berry red. Or umbrella red, that bright, crisp, London color. Pale pink.
But green. Green is everything. It's not just that deep, foresty, majestic, pine color I love so much. Green is life. Green is moss growing on the bank. Green is the hills I grew up in. Green upholds the flowers. Green is pushing your hands deep into the dirt one day, and seeing something new come up from the ground another. Green is serenity. Green is Christmas. Green is health and revitalization. Green is being together. Green is God's background color of choice. He put it everywhere.
Take a second and enjoy the greenery.

photo cred: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

I used to think our high school science teacher was crazy for going on about this color. "Green is good!" he would tell us. It was always the extra credit question and we'd roll our eyes.
But  I don't think I'd roll my eyes again if I was back there in that moment...
ok maybe just a small eye roll.

Have I ever mentioned that I am in love with breakfast?

I know it's the middle of the afternoon, but I just need to confess. I dream of breakfast.
When I'm hungry at night (why does this always happen?) I console myself with the existence of the morning meal.

Breakfast is fantastic. It can be so spontaneous. It can be so ordinary. It can be different every day, or have a set routine. It can be quiet, or shared. We can decide to eat it as late as we like.

I miss the breakfasts my mom would set out for everyone when we had company back in Germany.
There would be bread and cereal and fruit and jam and coffee and tea. Everyone would trickle down a few at a time to eat together before rushing off to things.
I always tried to be ready early on those mornings, so I could drink tea in peace with a large group of our family and friends before dashing off to school.

Lucky Penny

Yesterday, I almost missed my plane.
I suppose I could have written to you about it last night, but it seemed a little close for comfort. It was crazy.

The moment I want to talk about is this moment of calm in the midst of my hectic departure from Austin.
As I was rushing through security, about to miss my plane, I looked down. On the ground, just before the metal detector, was  a shiny, heads-up, lucky penny.
I almost picked it up.
But I didn't because I was about to go through the metal detector! Turns out I didn't need luck. Just a lot of prayer.
I made my flight. I'm in Wheaton with one of my best friends from high school.

I just wondered how many people have thought about picking that penny up.

Do you think someone put it there to mess with all of us?

I need to find a new escape; a nice quiet place to think. I'm used to heading off into the forest alone when I need some space or time to think.
Here that's a little sketch. I do not want to be in the woods all alone. Plus, it's a little flat here. Not exactly hill country. Not that that's bad, just a thing to point out.
We need to figure something out. I don't really have an answer, but there lies the problem.

PS: Don't you just love this girl's outfit?

I'm having one of those weeks with so much to do. All I want to do is run off and paint but instead I have to try and make myself work... but the internet is at hand. I get distracted. I'm mad at myself because browsing is not working or painting. I really just cannot wait for it to be over. Ah! This week!
On another note: I love this film, and this quote. "Les temps sont durs pour les rêveurs."
I like to picture myself like she does, with her heart beating in her chest or her whole body melting into a splash on the floor.

Today I feel like a traffic intersection is going on inside. Everyone's honking and busting and talking to other people in cars (as if they can be heard and they have the solution to all problems.) The train winds over my heart; women hang laundry out the window of my lungs; people are jogging and shopping in my stomach.
And I am standing there, drinking a glass of water. I am the city, immovable.
Maybe I'll paint that sometime. But not this week. These are hard times for dreamers.

PS: this is definitely making my list of foreign films, whenever I make it; but take it with a grain of salt!

Doesn't life feel like this sometimes? Hectic, yet somehow ordered... or at least hinting at order.

I got a few things done tonight! Huzzah!
If this week would end I might have time to paint and reply to a letter I happily received, but it hasn't even yet begun.

Time is going to be messing with us shortly here, but that's not the important thing about this post.
Here's the important thing:
Look at this clock. Doesn't it just make you want to be a kid again? Don't you want to do an art project? Do you  not feel like it's pulling you into a world of bunnies in teacups and mice dancing at balls? Where it's the moon counting the hours and watching you from the sky?

This pinterest board (where the clock is pinned) is for these fantastical ideas of mine. My aunt thinks I should write a children's book. I don't know if it'd be any good but sometimes my imagination wants to. This is one of those moments.

I feel like this picture should be a beautiful morning. The sun filters in, creeps over the covers. All curled up in bed with some warm socks. The perfect cup of tea.

I also feel like this picture is my evening tonight. Just me, curled up with some socks and a cup of tea. Avoiding the rare dreary weather outside. Everyone's stressed. I'm taking a break from the hectic pre-break stress. Tomorrow is showtime.

Right now though: sleep.
And in the morning: tea.

Do you ever feel like this? I sort of feel like this looking at my next few weeks. Crazy homework, crazy tests, crazy papers, and I am just not feeling very motivated. I know it will get done. I will get it done.

But sometimes I wish I could just head off into the mountains. Just for awhile.
Do you?

Now I did something sort of drastic to begin the month of March. If you follow my Pinterest you may have seen the signs.

Last semester I had long hair. Really long. I got it trimmed at Christmas time to keep it healthy but I wasn't loving it. And then Kat was like "You should get a pixie cut." I had thought about it before but now it was like GO FOR IT!!!

So first we did this

And I was like

And it became

And I was like

The next day was formal. We got ready like this

And looked all dolled up like this

And we were late because of picture taking like this

I love my pixie! It feels fluffy and effortless and exciting. It's wonderful.

Why, Hello March

Is it just me or was February awfully fast?
Well here's to a new month marching in (too cheesy? oh well)

Happy March!
